The finding represents one of the first examples of how oil from the Deepwater Horizon spill is moving into the Gulf of Mexico’s food chain. The larval crabs are eaten by all kinds of fish, from speckled trout to whale sharks, as well as by shore birds.

Pipe boom plan at Perdido Pass complete | Fox10tv.com

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

ORANGE BEACH, Alabama (WALA) – A $4.6 million pipe boom system is completed at Perdido Pass. The boom will hopefully catch the oil coming in at the mouth of the pass and then move it to a location where skimmers can dispose of it.

Leaders say there is still a chance oil could get into Perdido Bay. But at least there is some type of prevention in place. But people who based their lives here, like Lesle Peden, are happy to see that something is being done to keep the animals safe.

Can Boom Handle Alex Storm Surge? – Pensacola Florida

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Emergency management officials in Escambia County, Florida, are now closely watching two situations in the Gulf…the oil disaster and Tropical Storm Alex. Alex won't cause a direct problem in our neck of the woods but the storm will produce four to six foot seas, which could damage or destroy oil containment boom placed along the coastline. So far, the boom has been ineffective in containing oil, and with heavy seas, Alex could wipe out and toss the boom around like toys.

Condo developer ordered to stop consulting owners on BP claims | al.com

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

A Mobile County circuit judge has ordered condominium developer Brett Robinson to stop advising or consulting with condominium owners about potential claims against BP PLC, according to a temporary restraining order issued late Monday.

It follows a complaint filed Monday on behalf of David and Teresa Gill of Mobile, who own a share in a unit in Phoenix VII in Orange Beach. The complex was developed and is now managed by Brett Robinson.

The Gills contend that a letter sent to them by the realty company offering to file a claim on their behalf constitutes “the unauthorized practice of law.”

Choppy waters halted skimming operations in and near Alabama and Mississippi on Tuesday, while oil was seen in Perdido Pass and Oyster Bay in Baldwin County.

U.S. Coast Guard Cmdr. Charles Diorio told reporters in Mobile that skimmers cannot operate in waves higher than 4 feet. So task forces of skimmers sat docked rather than working assigned areas behind Petit Bois Island in Mississippi, Perdido Pass in Orange Beach and Mobile Bay.
